A new name, new sounds, and new tastes

We’ve changed our name to GHI Workforce Team Challenge. GHI is our title sponsor and thanks to them, this event is continuing, growing, and getting better every year.

We’ve updated our event logo and as you can see, our new website offers 21st century appeal.

To help get you psyched for the run, rock music, provided by DJ Brian DeBraccio, will greet all entrants arriving at the Empire State Plaza as they gather with their teams for pictures and warm up before the start.

When you’ve finished the hard part, a new array of nutritious goodies, including fruit, yogurt and other refreshments will await everyone who crosses the finish line.

Look for more details to follow.

Charity of Choice
For the 5th time, the Workforce Team Challenge will benefit a charity of choice.

Living Resources is an organization dedicated to providing life-enhancing services to individuals with developmental disabilities and acquired brain injuries. Motivated to create opportunities for full community integration for all persons, no matter the level of ability at which they approached their daily activities, caring professionals and committed parents opened the first program – a residence – in Schenectady in 1974. Since then, Living Resources has steadily expanded its programming to include clinical services, day habilitation, employment services, fine arts classes, hearing and interpreting services, after school programming, service coordination and, in 2005, the College Experience Program in collaboration with The College of Saint Rose.

In 2007, with an annual operating budget approaching $30 million, Living Resources served over 1,000 individuals; many of the people who come to us for services are enrolled in more than one program. Program staffing exceeds 700 full and part time, well-trained employees working throughout Albany, Columbia, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady and Westchester counties.

Open for business 24/7, this busy organization is guided by the compassionate leadership of one of its founders and CEO Fredrick W. Erlich. Fred often reminds his staff that the Living Resources story is never about what we have accomplished in the past, but what we still need to do in the future. With only 40% of the people in the Capital Region with developmental disabilities actually receiving services – that is, only 5880 out of 14,700 people – Living Resources is always focused on creating and expanding the services that bring enrichment and independence into these lives.

As the 2008 Charity of Choice, Living Resources wishes to thank GHI for the opportunity to participate in this year’s Workforce Team Challenge. The support that our programs will receive through this special honor will be very much appreciated. For more information about Living Resources visit the website at www.LivingResources.org.
