GHI Workforce Team Challenge –
Thursday, May 21, 2009
Start Time: 6:25 pm
Welcome!
The GHI Workforce Team Challenge is the Capital Region’s
workforce team run — and the largest annual road race between Utica
and New York City. There were 7,186 runners and 393 participating companies/organizations
in the 2008 race — a record turnout.
Since 1980, on one spring evening after work, thousands
gather in historic downtown Albany for this classic 3.5 mile road race.
From the CEO to the most recent hire, they come as colleagues and co-workers
and friends to make up the Teams that represent every enterprise in the
Capital Region — from emerging nanotechs to established blue-chips,
from school districts, colleges, and hospitals, banks and law firms, from
government agencies and non-profits. They are our region's greatest resource.
At the start, as the teams line up on Madison Avenue, the
atmosphere is electric with anticipation. With the singing of the national
anthem, the throng grows still. Then the gun goes off! Up the hill explodes
a colorful sea of runners. Running shoulder to shoulder, the teams of
the Capital Region workforce run through the historic Albany streets,
navigate through Washington Park — the crown jewel of Albany —
then return to a breathtaking downhill finish at the Cultural Center.
After the race at the Empire State Plaza participants receive
their t-shirts, while music fills the air and refreshments abound. Exuberant
teammates share their feats with their colleagues, report their times,
and await the awards. Afterwards, the teams complete the evening at one
of the city’s many fine dining establishments. It was a fulfilling
day. Nice Job!
Bring your WorkforceTeam and join
the teams that make the Capital Region run.
